Bought the SS inductions big mouth CAI for my EL XR8 and went to fit it today...What an epic, followed the instructions to the letter, and and the snorkel will not even remotely fit.

The snorkel does not fit where its supposed to go, ie it touches the air con compressor pulley, and when in position the factory EL V8 Engine cover will not fit any more as the front plastic shroud interferes with the snorkel as well, you would have to remove the front plastic shroud off the engine cover to make it work...says nothing about this in the instructions, when I attemptet to close the bonnet the snorkel also seemed to interfere with that, so I did not push the bonnet closed too hard for the fear of damaging the snorkel.

I am very dissappointed in this product, just wondering if others had similar problems with SS items, as this it the second thing I bought from them that did not even look like fitting the intended purpose...

Thats what I thought as well checked the packaging, the label says its correct, have contacted SS Inductions, might have been packaged wrong or something I am hoping, would love to see some photos of one fitted to an El V8, as even there web site only shows one fitted to a 6....

never seen one on a V8....may be there is a reason for that :?

I have one fitted to my EL which you can see in my gallery.
I initially had to cut into the plastic extension of the engine cover to allow it to fit alongside but have since removed the plastic extension.
In regards to fitting, yes it was a fiddly job and it did interfere on the pulley behind so I had to pull the snorkel as far forward as possible and drill the mounting holes while it was pulled forward. It just cleared the pulley. I've had it on for a couple of years now and it hasn't budged since.

Thanks for the info mate, just what I suspected the thing was never going to fit witout modding the engine cover, and I thought I might have done something wrong...

Wish they would tell you this before you shell out the $$$ ie, will only fit with engine cover removed

Why can't things ever be as advertised :? I have just about had it with this crap

Yeh fun and games.
Before I removed the plastic extension, I just cut into it enough to allow the snorkel to fit but after 6 months to a year, I just removed the plastic extension anyway as I thought the engine looked better without it.

I quite like the plastic extention....

Well got a phone call fron the SS Inductions guy today, he was very helpful, and yes he did say that the plastic cover needs trimming, and that it is a struggle to fit as he also fits them to cars, but recons well worth the effort once its done, as the gains outweigh the problems associated, especially fuel economy on long trips.

He also offered a full refund should I not be bothered to go thru with installing it...can't ask for more than that I suppose...will have a look on it over the week end and make a decision then.

you should try to fit the aunger snorkel, its even worse. once ya get it fitted its almost as hard getting the thing out again but once you get the nack of it youl be right. oh and yeah i had to cut heaps of the plastic pulley cover for it to fit.

Nice looking XR8 mate she looks hot, is the engine cover chromed or polished???

Love the Steel sill covers.

I might perservere wth the snorkel, ie take some time on the week end to fit it, yours looks good even with the engine cover modded to suit.

Did you notice a difference with it fitted????

thanks mate :) engine cover was chromed. i cut the hole in the airbox out to the size of the adaptor piece that the snorkle fits into and sealed it all up and with a k@n pannel filter i cant say i noticed anything but i dont have economy in mind when i drive her so i cant comment on that. im about to fit a piece of stainless pipe from airbox to t/body but its only for looks, wouldnt expect to notice anything.

I have already done the stainless pipe...cheap and easy mod, not sure it made a difference looks cool though...

The ss inductions site seems to thave good feed back on the testimonials about economy and power gains!

Will add to this post once I manage to install the bloody thing, will also try and get some engine bay photos into the gallery when its done..

also make sure the rubber seal on the underside of ya bonnet sits on the snorkel right, i think the ss ones match the shape of the seal but i cant remember.
