I have just completed the head work on my car AU Head Gasket AU Head Bolts new Exhaust valve seat's for LPG all alse Stock.
I was having trouble locating any info on the best way to set or check first the Clearance of the Hydraulic Lifters. The best l could find was info in a Gregory's workshop manual that said to check the clearance at the cam lobe's. I have done this check on my car to find that the clearance was slighly on the high side of the Specification but after driver the car for the last 2 Day's they are all working perfect. Is there any other experance with setting up the clearance?- fitting reground cams shafts as this would of course be a issue.

do you have a regrind cam?
they are hydraulic which will allow more more on the specification as they fill up with oil to take up some adjustment. so they are noisy when first removed but once they pump back up are generally fine with regrind cams an extra shim is just fitted to adjust the clearance. hope this is what you were asking.

I had no problems with my engine in regards to noisy tappets just was a bit unclear about the actual clearance and where is it checked? eg -Between cam lobe-(lobe low side) and rocker arm roller/ or is the clearance checked where the hydraulic lash ajuster and valve stem meet????
Of course with the hydraulic lifter calapsed....... Yes it right that a Hydraulic lifter will take up some clearance no problems and normally will need shims on reground cam. Thank's
