ey guys, i got an el, just wonderin if ne 1 knows how much crankshaft end float is acceptable.

ive got the engine out, and didnt even know it had any till i took the harmonic balance off, it only moves 2mm or so.

The spec is around 0.2 mm, It will go alot more than that before it cause problems, it will start to wear the timing chain cover when it gets excessive.
The bad news is that it may be the crank wearing and not the bearing surface. There was a bad batch of cranks in late EF and Early EL's that wore out in as little as 5000k's.

i had to replace the crank in my brothers el due to that problem, inspect the thrust surface on the crank, its very obvious when theyre flogged out

okay, well looks like im a little over the specs. ill take the sump and timing chain cover off and have a look around.
i got a price for a 3/4 engine of 1540 fully rebuilt, that any good??
