Hi all, I've got the standard thermostat in my NL, I've been told by quite a few people to change it to a lower temp one, its a 89-93.oC and fully open its 103-106.oC

I've been told that there are 80.oC ones?? or 74.oC ones?? is that right?? i know it needs replacing anyone, but can anyone give me anymore details on them?? going out to get one this morning, so any replies asap would be great :)

Thank you!!!

Sommer ..

dose engine get any hotter then half way on temp gauge if not do not replace with a cooler one you will get a better fuel consumption with the one you have
i sergest you get rad flash and replace with same temp range
if it is over heating flash rad/engine use same temp range but if still over heating then go to a colder temp but this is if there are no other problems eg blown head gasket poor oil flow

on freeway its fine, fans work fine, radiator has been flashed, and engine is close to new .... so no blown heads ....

hi
i use to have a 92 deg thermostat fitted and the car warmed up quicker but i noticed that the thermo fans had to work harder to keep the temp under 1/2. and when putting the car under stress like towing, heavy traffic or the odd burnout. the temp would head for the top and stay about 3/4.
the car never over heated but the temp use to get a bit high for me..

i got a 87 deg one in my car now and it will sit on a 1/4 all day long. the only time it goes up to 1/2 or higher is if im stuck in traffic or hauling a trailer up a steep hill or the old burnout seems to get the heat going..

but once the temp gets to 1/2 the thermo fans kick in and the temp will head back down between 1/4 and 1/2 and stay there.

basically your thermostat is designed to keep your engine at a steady temperature wether it be 92 deg or 87deg its up to your self but if your worried about it sitting to high i would use a 87 deg..

but first make sure your cooling system is clean and check for leaves and crap in between your air con cooler and your radiator...

hi everyone, okay, cleaned out radiator, put in a cooler thermostat, and now its running heaps better, does not get hot anymore or overheat!

Also! The air conditioning is heaps cooler now too!! and it seems to have a bit more poke to it

worked out that the thermostat is pretty easy to change :)

I LOVE working on cars!!!
