Hey All,

Dunno if this is the correct place for this but anyway,

I am just wondering if any knows the external dimensions of the following V8 engines?

BA 5.4 XR8 Engine
AU XR8 220 engine
LS1 engine

I am looking at using one of the engines in a mini Cooper round nose hotrod I am building.

Cheers,

Don't have the dimensions at hand but someone will surely post them up soon.

One thing I can tell you is the AU Windsor engine is the smallest, followed by the LS1 and then the lard a*** 5.4 DOHC, which looks big enough to eat the other two as a snack.

If you are worried about height, the intake is the biggest thing on a EFI Windsor, take it off and you nearly drop half its height  , where you could run an low aftermarket intake to keep it low, a rod will most likely be light weight, so the loss of low down torque won't be an issue and the top end gains would be a bonus.

i have seen a carbed 308 in a mini before its not a small job
i have some dimensions on the 302w
dont know how the au would be any differnet,
Width - 18 3/4" (without headers)
Height - 20 1/4" (to the rocker covers, height of intake varies)
Length - 27 1/2" (from waterpump to flywheel)

{DESCRIPTION}

A windsor or the LS1 is your best bet. Above is a pic comparing the windsor with the obese 4.6 boss. dimensions and weight it really is a big motor. They 5.4 dimension wise is a tad larger but a fair bit more heavier due to the iron block.

The LS1 would be bang for your buck in terms of power and availability. They weigh less than a commodore V6 and can be had for cheap. Doesnt cost the earth to get em going either and there are also intake manifolds to suit carb set ups too for ease.

Now N/A (permanent Lag) - AFR 165's, Comp XE270 cam, 1.6 RR - 269 rwhp 14.1 @ 102mph.

Technically and price wise I agree, but I would never advise anyone to use a LS1 due to me being a one eye Ford man

You wouldn't notice the lack of low down torque from a stock LS1 in a light hot rod either.

Is the rod going to be registered. If it is and its sitting on a custom chassis then your pretty much locked into using the Boss motor.

Or anything that complies with current engine emission ADRs.
