Ok guys, its just about time to start my major project in school which will involve the rebuilding of an AU1 i6 motor which i already have acquired.
Its all ready to go on the engine stand and ready to be pulled apart. I will be using my limited knowledge+service manual+teacher and of course fordmods as my guide throughout the rebuild process. Here is my question..where do i start. I plan to unbolt the external acc's first (all pumps and pulleys, intake, exhaust manifold ect..). Whats after that? rocker cover and gears ? head? crank? does anyone have some tips on the storage and labeling of unbolted parts? Teacher recommended zip lock bags, masking tape and a black texta. Im in a class of about 13 and s**t will be everywhere and the last thing i want is lost parts/screws/nuts ect..or putting everything back together and finding spare nuts.. I will be taking photo's of EVERYTHING so i guess that should help. thanks in advance |

If you have a manual just follow that. Lot easier than someone typing it all out for you. Generally though you start from the top and work down until the head is off, then turn it over and remove the sump, oil pump, push the pistons out, remove the crank etc etc.
For storing bolts, labelled bags, jars etc are all good. I try to thread bolts back in there place after removing a part wherever possible.
