That AVX2 is alright for sound and everything, if not a bit bright in the high end on CD playback.

What are your opinions on the AVX2?

My problem is this. My Nephews complained that the bass in the back seat was too loud, even though in the front it was great and punchy.
I got in the back and yeah, not good at all. I checked the subwoofer amp and someone had played with the switches and the sub was trying to produce too much of the frequencies below 150Hz.
So I cleaned up the sound by adjusting it. Then I noticed the rear speakers sounded s**t aswell, too boxy in the bass they were trying to reproduce.
This is where the AVX2 is limited. To cut the low frequency to the rear speakers, the front ones have to be filtered too. You can't do the crossover adjustment for front and rear seperately. Even the though the front Alpines reproduce bass nicely.

What is a fairly cheap option in aftermarket crossovers. It obviously means I have to install them between the AVX2 and the rear speakers yeah?

And, will replacing my 8" enclosed Kicker sub in the boot with a better quality subwoofer give me a cleaner, less noisy, punchier bass sound in the rear seat aswell as the front. What do I do to acheive the perfect balance. I don't want to send my Nephews deaf with the way it was.

Hi Kit,

in regards to crossovers for the rear speakers you can get hi pass kits from jaycar. A hi pass filter as the name suggest just filters out all the signal below a certain frequencey.
All you need to make one is a copacitor of the correct value. This is a fairly cheap way to do it and if you google hi-pass filters you should be able to get some cap values for a cutoff frequency.

Easy, ditch the rear speakers......

Running all your speakers off amps gives you much more control over volume and frequency filtering, so I'd go with that. Makes boot installs more interesting too.

Get an electronic crossover from jaycar, bout $100 bucks and controls everything perfectly. I always use them.

At the moment I do run it all off external amps. The Pioneer 6100F doesn't do a very good job of High Pass filtering either.
That or the rear speakers are out of phase or something to the Pioneer amp. If that's the case, and the rear speakers are out of phase, would that stop the Pioneer's High Pass filtering from working properly?

It won't change the way the filter works but it may affect the way it sounds....

Are there any tools out there to use to check that everything is in phase with my speaker connections?

Actually I found the answer on the internet.
I just use a 1.5V battery a do a quick (less than a second) test on each one.
Is this safe for coaxial speakers?

Yes it is safe if you just pulse it don't leave it connected...
