Gday,
I have to take the pulley off my power steering pump to modify the bracket. I think it is an XD style pump. There is a hex section in the front but I remember reading somewhere this is only used in the factory to drive the pump for testing. Behind the hex part there is a thread about 30mm deep that I take it is used when pressing the pulley back on. I tried to pull it off today with a set of 3 jaw pullers and got nothing but 2 bent bolts. Is there a special trick to getting these off or do I just need to try harder? Cheers, Matt

Turns out the 20tonne press is the way to go.

There is a special puller that you can buy. It has a jaw that engages more than 180 degrees around that groove on the front of the pulley.
Or use the press as you have done. Sometimes it hard to get the 20T press into the engine bay though. |

XD original p/s pumps were the C2 plastic ones, noisy as sh!t. The V8 EB to EF/EL were still using them and the V6 Explorers too.
That pic of the pump you have is a Saginaw type.
