Hi All ,
My first post so here goes, I have a 96 XH 5 speed ute that is flat spotting on initial acceleration, if I rev it more than normal and ride the clutch a bit its fine but if I give it some revs while letting the clutch out the car loses power untill I lift the accelerator of and go again then it kick in and goes. ,I have checked the obvious TPS sensor and tried the O2 sensor disconnection trick to no avail, I also tightened the intake manifold nuts in case of a vacuum leak. As it is does anyone know if this is a common problem and can a dirty/broken hall effect device in the dizzy be the cause, the clutch on the car is being changed out this week as was shuddering a bit and very stiff to operate.I haven't been able to look at the distributor cap as I can't get it out , maybey I have to remove something first ? any help would be greatly appreciated. Dean

I hope this is not breaking any thread mining rules, apologies if so.
Did you have any resolution with your issue? My Xh (auto) has developed a similar flat spot. It occurred after recently having (amongst other things, it is getting of that vintage where it is starting to require some TLC) the brake master cylinder changed (due to a brake oil leak - not a good leak to have, as brakes can come in useful at times). After doing a search on this topic, in this forum, a vacuum leak seems to be a likely culprit (maybe they omitted to put a hose and or clamp back on or something - will have a look tomorrow). Which would explain the coincidental occurrence with the replacement works, when it was previously fine. See how I go. Thanks and regards, Lyle |
