Good afternoon,

Got a question hopeing someone can shed some light on for me.

I have a 04 XR8 Boss 260 Manual, on cold start first thing in the morning when I crank it, it has a rattle only lasts for around 4-5 seconds then stops, never does it through the day after starting and stopping though.
To me it sounds like there's no oil in the engine like an old school tappet noise?
Im hopeing its nothing to major as the warranty has run out about 4 months ago.
Went into ford today the bloke there said it could be timing chain tensioners and gave me a ruff quote to fix $1500.

Any ideas from anyone would be a great help.

Cheers

Shaun

Dead on the money! Will be the timing chain tensioners! We have had a few through work! It very common! Usually do the tensioners and also the guides in some cases!

Find yourself a performance shop who work on Fords and you'll probably find they'll be able to fix it considerably cheaper than Fraud! That's my experience here in the west anyways.

I'll do the work for you!! job is easy as..... 04 what month might be still covered. Its for sure timing chain tensioners, no need for guides. some seals need to replace. All u need to do is inlet plenum off, unclip pcm wiring and 2 12mm's off the master cylinder(brake) tilt her back, rocker covers off, p/steer pump off, 4 sump bolts, couple pulleys and harmopnic off. timing cover off, can time the motor but just mark with white and check hasn't jumped teeth after. Get a mate to hold chain tension 2 x 8mm off each tensioner (1 at a time with mate holding chain tension) new revised ones on and reverse process. i do them in about 1:10 turn around so 2 hours at home. easy.

I would also consider doing the oil pump drive gears while u are stripped down if u are doing your self, little extra time, but worth it. They s**t em selves all the time.

I thought that stopped happening since AUIII, from customer reports Ford Customer Relationship Centre has gone to s**t since BA was released, just look at the s**t you have to write when doing a warranty claim, basically you have to blow their trumpet and never state the problem was a Ford design or manufacture fault, otherwise there is a high chance of claim rejection, big difference to pre BA claims and customer service.
