hey guys, my ef 6cyl just got a lpg conversion and it is cutting out!
first it only cut out on lpg and my wife had to drive it home on petrol. We took it back and hthe guy said he left the gas tank nozzle not fully turned on. and thats why it cut out going up a big hill and sitting on 120kmph. it was fine all friday and all weekend. Then this morning i get a call from my wife saying the car has stopped again and wouldnt start on petrol either. this was in the middle of the highway... she also mentioned that there was oil under the car... The mechanic drove up and picked it up about 2 hours later and it started and drove fine all the way home!!! he said it may be the coil packs and just a coincidence that it wentthe time of the conversion and thats whats throwing us off track? also it didnt seem to leak any oil for him on way home.... any ideas guys? |

A lot of possibles:
1)was it oil, or water, under the car. If a water leak, maybe converter freezing up due to air lock or lack of water. This would explain why it cuts out occasionaly. 2) when car stopped, was the ignition turned off, and then on again, to listen for the solenoids to click? No click = no electrickery to power solenoids = no gas. 3) possible faulty switch on petrol to gas. Also check the switch was not accidentaly knocked into the "neutral" position. (This is a good "anti theft" BTW) 4) be carefull about "coil packs not working". This is usualy accompanied by backfires with gas. Just a few ideas |

it sound like the convertor is freezing, lack of water flow, the next time it happens again pull over if you can & touch the convertor if its not as hot as your top radiator hose, theres your problem...then repair as its required.

In some cases, you can see the frost on the converter!!

if you can see frost on the convertor tell the mechanic because it aint getting enough hot enigne water through it,
also if it is freezing the convertor chances are it can damage it causing possible leaks and fires under the bonnet. |
