Hey all

Having some issues with my ED at the moment.

It wont start.. Turns over ok, but wont go.

after a bit of trial and error I've discovered that the injectors aren't spraying. When you turn the car over no fuel comes out, however when you let the key off start and back into run a little bit flows out. There's definitely fuel pressure to the rail, though. I can disconnect a line and turn they key and, fuel flows freely.

i thought maybe it was the smartlock but I've checked it against my workshop manual, and it seems normal..

Any thoughts? Any help would be much appreciated

EDIT - This started just after swapping to a Wade 1636 cam.. Car hasen't run since that was put in

you haven't f**k up and shorted out the smartlock fuse..... (CRT_LAMP) if not maybe you have left a wire or something off or loom unpluged when i did my Manual Conversion i was stupid enough to assume that i plugged everything in but i left out a loom that connects to the starter and coil etc etc.....

the main things that prevents a car from starting id either .... Coil rooted.... Dizzy...... human error

i suggest go over ya wires......... ya fuses....... ya relays........

and if you did these things hmmmmmmmmm

I don't remember unplugging anything except for the ignition leads and negative on the battery when I took the top end apart..

I'll go check the fuse (and the globe, for that matter) now..

is it possible the negative on the batter could affect anything? It was unplugged for 24+ hours while the Job was done (Ford gave me the wrong size shims, so I had to finish the job the following day :))

EDIT - Fuse is Ok, as is the Globe.. Interesting though, the car will still turn over with the fuse unplugged.. I thought the car wasn't meant to turn over at all if the smartlock was disabled?

it soulds like you will need to reset your smartlock..
turn the ignition on (turn off all accesories) and leave it fo 30 mins.. this will reset smartlock..

I have recently been through this on my project car. I tried swapping the BEM and it didn't fix the problem. I did have a little electrical problem which resulted in a spark under the dash, which stopped the injectors from firing. Double check all of the pin voltages to the ECU. (This turned out to be my problem)

Regardless...
The problem is going to be ECU, smartlock or the hall sensor in the dizzy. Taking a punt as I'm not sure about ED 6's, but the hall sensor does the same job as a crankshaft/camshaft position sensor. If you aren't getting anything out of that sensor then the ECU does not know that the engine is cranking. This would be a good starting point as your would have mucked around with the dizzy when you changed the cam.

Check the voltages on the injectors. Do you have 12v on both sides of each injector? This would pretty much rule out the ECU. If you do the 30min thing on the BEM it would pretty much rule that out as it turns off the immobilisation after the 30mins. The BEM's are infamous for having crap connections.

Have you got yourself a multimeter? Have you pulled the codes from the ECU? Run a KOEO check and see if the ECU digs anything up.

Thanks for the replies

I tried the Half Hour reset thing.. Didn't work, unfortunately..

As suggested, next things on the List are KOEO test, and to check the Hall Affect Sensor..

With any luck my workshop manual will have some information on these..

Thanks for the Help guys, managed to get the car started..

Only problem now is, it runs like a bucket of s**t. It won't start unless you put your fut on the throttle, and then it won't stay running unless you keep it there.. as soon as I let it go to idle it dies.

It also runs very rough and is billowing clouds of White, Petrol smelling smoke from the exhaust.

The firing order is ok, that's the first thing I tried, and I know the plugs are sparking, as I tested that before I got it running..

Any ideas?

That's a point, I suppose..

I was expecting it to run poorly to an extent, just not as bad as it is..

Did you find out what stopped the injectors from firing?

My muz did the same, only started with throttle and ran like crap.

What pressure do you have at the rail? My fuel pump was bung in the end.

It was the human error part of it - missed a bit that was meant to go onto the negative of the battery..

Noticed it by accident too.. took the battery out to charge it cos i'd run it down a bit and noticed the extra cables dangling around
