hey guys, i'm getting a manual conversion delivered within the next couple of days and i was wondering what sort of things i should do before putting the box in so that i can help limit my chances of it screwing up anytime soon..
things i've thought of are: - get the flywheel machined - buy new clutch - buy a billet short shifter anything else i should add to this list? |

lol, short shifter is gonna help you kill it sooner
other things to check are (on an e-series): -front seal in the box, dont want oil to leak all over ur clutch -trans mount (make sure its not busted) -get the firewall reinforced around where the cable goes thru it, they have a habit of tearing -make sure the speedo sender is the right one for your diff so you don't throw your speedo out (will your old auto one fit into the manual? then you know its gonna be right) -get a fresh spiggot bearing (they normally dont come as part of a clutch kit) -if you're doing the swap yourself, get an aligning tool.. priceless piece of equipment! -make sure the ring gear isn't munged -you can consider using synthetic oil in it if its gonna cop a workout (and/or add an additive like Nulon G70 to reduce friction) -make sure you get a manual ECU or bypass the inhibitor switch hmm, thats about all i can think of right now good luck mate, manual's the way to go..

i just finished my manual conversion yesterday. if u plan to used a ea flywheel but upgrade your cluch u will have to drill out and tap new holes ( i learnt that the hard way) always use new spigot and throwout bearings, um try and get a manual ecu, if not it pays to study how to trick the auto ecu, make sure u got the euipment to get ur car nice and high off the ground so u can remove the auto...
what car you got by the way |

tuncher is correct, EAs use a 9.5" clutch which has 3 bolts holding the pressure plate on and EB onwards use a 10" clutch with (i think) 6 bolts for the pressure plate..

lol everyone is doing conversions atm.. Me too! If you've never done it before, give yourself two days to fiddle. If you have, a day max.
