Hey guys.

Ive attempted to install a trip computer in my ELXR8, but am kinda stuck..
Ive followed the 'Trip Computer Installation' docco thats on this site, but no help..

My problem is the 'data line' that comes from the instrument cluster.. Where is it? lol

Ive taken out the cluster and unclipped the 'right' cluster plug to look for the 'pin 14' wire (data line).. but there isnt one there???

Where the hell is it? Would it be on a different pin? If so, which one & what colour is it?

Would it be because my car is an EL and the car in the docco is an EF?

Help! :x

It's all done! ..i think?

With the trip computer calculations though, ie. the average fuel, instant fuel, etc.. Should they be working when the car is idling? Cos all it shows is either '0' or '0.0' depending on which one is selected. Except for fuel remaining which shows '160'.

Also, i havent driven the car or set the clock/calendar on the trip computer yet, would that be the reason why the calculation arent showing anything? I cant see how, but who knows..? ..If not, why would it just be showing zeros?

Cheers.

Give it time, like you said you have not driven it so it has nothing to work out yet etc.,

All's good.. everythings working well now.
Just one question though, is the display on the trip computer supposed to when you turn the headlights on?
Cos it looks fine when the lights are off, but when i turn them on, the trip computer digits dim considerably!
Is this normal?

Cheers.

Yep. So it doesnt ruin night vision. Check by increasing dash light brilliance next to headlight switch. If it doesnt increase with the rest of the dash somethings wrong.

Is the dimmer switch high/low or variable?

Nah the trip computer doesnt brighten when increase the dash light brilliance. Only the dash does.

Also, the right side of the trip computer doesnt light up either, bugger!
Im probably gona have to replace the globes or some s**t.. Do you know exactly what globes they are?

Am i gona have to take off the whole dash facia to take out the trip computer? Or is there a shortcut?

If its like a convential EL dash then yes and no. Some people do, I take out my demister button and push my trip computer out like that.
