Have someone help you by pulling the trim in an outward motion, while you unscrew.I suspect the plastic nut is stripped !

I've experienced the same issue. A further idea would be to get some sort of lever behind the trim, and pressure it outward. Whatever you use to achieve a result, will mean you then need to replace the nut somehow,or go to a slightly larger diameter screw, so that it will cut a thread, and not leave the problem unresolved.

The EF/EL armrests screw into anchor rivets, they can loosen and spin around - I had the same with the upper one - I ended up cutting it off to get the trim off, then getting another armrest from the wreckers.

I drilled and installed a self tapper into the front lip of the anchor rivet and door skin to anchor it properly, then took off the self tapper head. Replacing the rivet is a PITA.
