I have a really wierd box in my AU, unless its standard like this:
1st gear 65km/h
2nd gear: 100km/h
3rd gear: 140km/h

100km/h in 5th: 2300rpm

is this right or has it got an issue

if all the gears seems longer then maybe your diff is a strange ratio. my t5 in my eb probably probly could have done close to that much but it would be at redline and wouldnt last long!

ive got a t5 in my ef gli. so it has the 3.08 gears. and i struggle to pull 60 out of first, i could maybe get 100 outta second and at 100kph im on about 2050. then at 120 i sit at about 2400rpm.

maybe my gearbox is and ea. but i was to it was an ebII onwards....

Ive got an au3 and its got the standard 3.45 diff.
1st= 60kms
2nd= about 100kms

100k's in 5th@ 2050rpm

does yours vibrate the car when shifting down from 4th to 3rd and 3rd to 2nd?
mine does. would anyone know what the go s with that?

my ED XR6 (T5, 3.45) did 60 in 1st, 100 in 2nd, 150 in 3rd and 1950@100km/h (note 3rd gear speed at Willowbank) so i figured the XR8 would be relatively similar

v8's have different ratio's to the sixes. main diff is 3rd. others are fairly similar. i think the v8's have a taller first as well.

the revs in 5th are a bit strange though. i would've thought they'd be about 300rpm lower at least.

box may have been apart at some stage and 5th may have been replaced with something shorter but 2300 almost sounds like 4th specs (1:1)

i also thought xr8's had a 3.23 diff and xr6's got 3.45. thats how it is in early ba's and eb-ed's anyway. not sure on ef/l and au!

the main thing that has me is the 5th gear revs, the rest is fine, just figured 5th should be revving lower than it does

My BA XR6 Manual does these in each gear
1st : a little above 60km/h say about 62-65km.h
2nd: 105km/h
3rd: 155km/h
Speed limiter in 4th and at about 4250 in 5th.
Pulls about 2100rpm in 5th gear at 100km/h

Sounds like your gearing is correct. I was also supprised at the rpm on the highway when I first got mine as I was used to driving an auto Fairmont that pulled 1700pm at 100.

the other thing that has me, i can sit stationary and the speedo will bounce from anywhere between 10 and 50km/h

My EA:

1st = 65km/h @5800 rpm
2nd = 105km/h @5300 rpm
3rd = 150km/h @5000 rpm
4th = 190km/h @5000 rpm
5th = 220km/h @4500 rpm

thats 2.92 diff gears.

Electrical problem perhaps or speedo sender problem :idea:
