Hi I have an ed xr6 headlight bracket that has one of the retaining lugs broken and was told it can be repaired using plastic weld, has anyone tried this before.

or you can make up a steel braket and bolt it to the light and glue the part that broke off onto it so in front it looks the part.

Get it done properly, pay some one to plastic weld it. Wont cost too much

Yeah dont be bodgy about it, get it done properly.

The plastic used to make the XR headlight bases is made of a composite material that is NOT weldable using any current plastic welding techniecs.
Hence the reason the base is not avialable seperatly and are so expensive.
You have two options either make another lug as decribed above or use a product such as Wurth Plastic-fix Ridged the later is a two part plastic repair material made for applications such as this and is used by plastic repairers and panel shops{I used this product on my headlight bases as they came out of a smashed car}.Mine have been done now for about 4 years and still going strong.I know there is another similar product available but I cant remember who makes it I think it is called Plas-weld or something and comes in a tube similar to Araldite K&H also make a product similar which you should be able to get your local Autobarn to order in for you if they dont stock it.
All the products mention also require a special surface cleaner & adhesion promoter{primer before glue application}
