Hi all
I wanna install an auto trans oil cooler to bypass the radiator in my BA xr6. Anyone got an opinion on the best brand/type to get??? PWR? B&N? fin&pipe? plate? Has anyone installed one that's working ace?

the PWR ones are quite good from what i have heard

Yeah, I have the biggest PWR one I could get, works a treat.
Never had a problem. |

The ones from supercheap work a treat as well. Most cabs use that style of trans cooler with the multiple S bent tube.

have it on both our cabs, bypassed rad and on my el inline with rad. works a treat, last tranny service fluid was still in decent cond in all 3 cars. will have to make up your own brackets. supercheap sold it for $120 when we bought from supercheap. repco wanted $200+. or if you don't wanna make brackets get a pwr one they come in a kit, but i think its a little smaller than the davies one *not 100% sure*

PWR have the best in my opinion. Use it on all my cabs, plus a mate of mine who runs a taxi management company only uses PWR on his 30+ cabs. If you have a Drivline shop near you visit them. They do complete kits, including instructions, for BA's, brackets and all!

PWR stuff is bloody expensive, but you do get what you pay for in my opinion. |

They work a treat. People think that with the 2 tranny coolers and intercooler his car overheats. Nothing could be further from the truth. |

Thats the worst thing you can do!!! (excluding single tube style coolers) The outlets should be at the top, or coming out the side. If the outlets are facing downwards, chances are 1/2 the cooler is full of air (ie top 1/2 of the cooler) as there is no way to purge the air out, therefore the cooler is inefficient. |

Is it viable to install a T piece on the hose just before the inlet of the cooler so I can put a sensor/sender to an auto trans temp guage. The alternative i was told about involved quite a bit of work to install the sensor into the transmission unit???

its a lot more accurate to put the sensor into the pan, so you can see how how the trans fluid itself is, T-ing into the cooler line will reveal a higher temp as the oil has just come out of the front part of the trans, on its way to the cooler.
You can do it, but it will read somewhat higher, although it will still give you an indication of a 'round about temp. |

That'd be easy done - just get a t-peice with two hose stule ends from somewhere like Enzed. Slip the hose over them and clamp on. Then the 3rd fitting have it threaded and thread the sensor in. You could probably use a standard oil temp gaurge for it, I wouldn;'t have thought it would have to be a specific auto tranny temp gauge. |

Another good brand of cooler is Derale.
I changed the factory one on my EB for one of these after I rebuilt the trans and put a Hi stall in it. I also had a look at the PWR ones, but I preffered the Derale one instead, but just have a look around at the different coolers first. http://www.derale.com/
