Gday all

My EB ghia is blowing white smoke out of the exhaust (heaps on full throttle) and is down on power, wont idle properly and just runs crap.

my chiptorque chip when not plugged in the car behaves as above, and when i plug it in it gets worse.

its an EB ghia with 5spd conversion, crow cam, pacemakers, 2.5", cold air (bonnet scoop) and the mentioned chiptorque chip.

used to run fine and go like the clappers then the above started happening and got progressivley worse.

has had the throttle body cleaned, new injectors, been rewired (when it first started playing, up plugging in the chip would just stall it)

is this a 2 separate problems (i.e. needs a new computer and also 02 sensor or something) or could it be one easy fix?

i want my car back on the road!!!

thanks guys

white smoke? how does the brake pedal feel? how often do you need to top the brake level up?

the reason i ask is because if you engine draws brake fluid from the booster, caused by a leak master cyl, it will burn and make white smoke

head gasket...i assume the chip just puts out more smoke cause more air is blowing through the engine.

But yeah, when my headgasket died the white smoke was so think you couldn't see through it

I agree, unfortunately it's most likely the head gasket.
The only other cause of white smoke I know of is valve stem seals.
Either way, the head's gotta come off, you'd might as well make sure both are good (plus valve seating).

thanks for the advice fellas!
are there anyways of checking the head gasket without removing the head?
take the radiator cap off and check for bubbles in the coolant while the car is running? see how i go, but im sick of paying money for things to be fixed and going the looooong way to solving the problem.

Do a compression test to make sure your head is sealing. Compression testers are cheap and east to use, good to have if you own a Falcon. Before removing the spark plugs you may want to disconnect one lead at a time to see if it makes any difference. If it doesn't then you know that cylinder isn't behaving properly. A bad read on a cylinder may even be a broken valve spring. Check all plugs for fouling and check your catalytic converter isn't blocked up.
