alright, well i installed a headunit in a mates festiva(a girl yes), used aerpro plugs so it was direct plug and play, everything seemed to work fine, this was 2 weeks ago, now on the weekend she drove it for the first time at night and it had no illumination on the dash, trans, or brakes, which are all on the same fuse, i replaced it and it'd pop straight away, any ideas on how the hell this happend?

i'd suggest the illumination wire is shorting or not capable of handling extra current drawn and blowing the fuse. check the harness, i've seen decks installed properly but when the deck is inserted into the dash it can pinch a wire and short it out.

yeah the wires can't be pinched, the space behind the headunit on a festiva is phenominal, all cars should be like that, mite take the unit out again, only thing was there was a little black wire on a metal square plug, at the back, didn't reconnect it, didn't know what it was for, ford couldn't tell me either, wanks

I had the same issue when I installed a headunit on my girls Pathfinder. I couldnt work it out so a ran a separate 12v from the battery especially for the headunit instead of using the wire that was in parallel...

she took it to a electrician, all fixed now, said that the wiring was wrong, one of the plugs musta been off or something, that'll teach me for not checking the loom to make sure it was right, think the lady at the shop gave me the one for another brand headunit
