I'm going to be running a V8 on straight LPG in my XP convertible. My biggest question is which motor? I have ruled out the 351 Cleveland as it is too much of a hassle to make it fit and rego etc.

I was going to go with either a 289 or 302 old school but then someone said "why not get a 90's 302w EFI and rip off the injection and run the carby instead". My LPG mechanic (who I trust alot) said that a carby set up would be better with the LPG than the EFI. I've been looking at both motors (seems cheaper to buy a whole car with everything in it than each part individually) and just recently read that the older blocks are built stronger (I think thats what they were saying).

So what to do? Should I try to find a good 'old school' 289/302 or 351w OR is it worth while going the 302 EFI and changing it back to the carby set up? Any suggestions would be valued. I just looked at a 302c (76DA9425EA - 14F8) which has been built up to a 351. Its currently running straight gas and has the C4 driving it.

I am currently running a 200ci on LPG (the LPG has been set up so the V8 can slot straight in).

Neil

Make it dedicated gas, its a much nicerr system, and more power to boot! Id go with a later model efi, put on an old school manifold, and a GRA throttle body. Im sure GRA now do throttle bodies that look simialr to carbies.

Yeah, had that idea thrown at me too. Did think about it at one stage but I'm a sucker for the grumble of 8 cylinders.

Must say though, I think the EB/ED was the best looking Falcon produced. Use to have one and it sat pretty!

An unleaded motor starts off with hardened valves and so on. How about F series truck, didnt they have a 5.8w?

Well I have finally got the motor. Its a 92 Windsor 302 with C4 from an NC Fairlane.

Now I am going about converting it from EFI to carby.

I'll let you know how it goes.
