Gday cobbers, just wondering how you blokes with a manual conversion went about dealing with insurance companies and or Vicroads/whoever? Did you even tell them ? I was considering not but I realised it may possibly void my insurance. Considering the EF Ghia only came as an auto it's a bit hard for me to pull the old "there must be some kind of mistake my car's a manual" trick. Any ideas not involving an engineers certificate?

I went to VicRoads and told them I did a manual conversion, so they just put in the description a transmission conversion was done. Told my insurance company about it too, and they put it in the policy description with a transmission conversion to manual, didn't cost me anything extra. This is with JustCar insurance.
When they send you updated paper work of the policy, it will still be printed as an Automatic, but the "other" section covers the conversion since the program they all use does not recognize a Manual Fairmont considering they never came out with a manual. No engineering certificate required because T5's (if it is a T5 that you put in) came out from factory on Falcons as an option. Only require one if all Falcons from GLi to Fairlanes didn't come out with a T5 option. Hope that helps. phong =P~

when i did my conversion i told NRMA and they didnt really care cause its off the same model car.... they said that the only problem is if you get one thats made for another car and you get a custom bellhousing or something.
although this is my experience, id still check with you dept of transport

Yup NRMA said the same thing as above. Still check though cos it would suck to have void insurance because of a manual tranny.

Same as above, did mine last week.
Rang Vic roads and told them that i had done the conversion, said that it was all using factory parts and was an option at the time. All good he said and just put a note on my records. Then rang RACV and told them the same, said that vic roads did'nt see it as a mod, they said cool and put a note on my records. About 10 mins on the phone and no cost. |

Sweet thanks, yeah just a T5 nothing special and I'm with JustCar as well. I was worried it was going to turn out to be a bigger pain in the a** than converting the car over itself Thanks fellas.

When I told the NRMA, they said that it was fine. When I got my renewal "Gearbox Changes" came up under modifications. Didn't change te price of the premuim at all.
