I'm converting my XP to V8 power and I was just going to get the Fairlane diff I'm stealing the motor from cut down but my friend (who is a mechanic) said I should just rebuild my current diff.
Obviously I will be talking to a local diff doctor (and if anyone can point me in a good direction for a Canberra diff mechanic that would be good) but I wouldn't mind going in with a bit of info before hand. Any help would be excellent. Neil |

If your upgrading to a V8 your going to have to upgrade your brakes,
So I gather you will also change over to 5 stud insteed of the origanal 4 stud pattern, if so why not chuck a 9inch under it from a XR, XT, XW, XY, XA ect then you have the option of going disc rearend also. |

I have the disc front end all ready. My mate (the mechanic) mentioned mini spools... I guess the XA would be better as then I retain the leaf springs and the costs don't sky rocket.

im pretty sure XA diff's are wider than XW/Y series diff's so you will probably have to shorten it.
are XP diffs same width as XW/XY series ? |

I put a XT 3.23 9" in the back of my sedan whilst my old man and I rebuilt my original one,
It was a straight swap except we had to change the yokes over. |

Yeah, a mate a work who knows all about X's said an XT - XW diff would be best.

The XP has a rear wheel track of 1384 and the XA has one of 1524mm. The XT and XW are 1473 and 1486 respectively.

Back then if the diff fitted under the car and sat on the spring saddles properly it was bolted in.
My cousins XC Fairmont ended up with the 9 inch in it in the end. |

the xb and xc diffs are 1 inch wider than the xw and xy diffs. but the spring pads are the same width and bolt straight up. if you have wide tyres make sure they still fit. as for the xp, have you considered an 8 and a quarter from a compact or early mustang. should bolt straight in with xw/xy v8 uni's. they are good for 350hp
