HI Everyone,
I have a EL GLI, bought everything for installing power windows. Installed everything worked for a week okish. Month later they do down but dont wanna come back up. Ive taken the unit out, sprayed it with uziglide, and the inside rubber where the window goes up and down- No luck Sprayed both with spray silicone - no luck either I basically have for windows that go down but wont come up, it even hard to try and push the windows up by hand as well. Can anyone help out?? |

Did you do all the windows or was it just the front? If all windows don't go up, then there must be something wrong with the wiring/switches.
In any case, have you pulled the centre switch out and checked it out? hopefully the PCB is still in good nick and hasn't fried due to overload/short circuit. If the centre switch is fine you might want to look at your wiring again. Might be a loose wire somewhere or something. By the way, when you push the up switch, can you hear the motor move at all or making any noise? If nothing moves or no noises, then I blame the switches/wiring. good luck phong =P~

Ok, I should have given more details.
Done all four windows Replaced the wiring loom Basically goes down ok, when tell it to go up it trys but its like its too hard for it too do it. If i tell them 2 go down about 2 inches, it will go up then but very slowly. Its like its just too hard for it, all four are the same, but ive tried dry lub, ezi glide, and spray silicon on the window rubber piece all with the same affect Help?? |

Have you tried undoing the window from the mechanism and checked if it moves freely in the channels? Are the windows tinted ?

To a degree yes they move freely, could be smoother though Windows are tinted yes |

dont EL's have thicker glass than EF's..glass + tint might be the problem .

You might then want to check out the cables just in case they have entangled during installation. Might not be the problem but could play a roll.
Remove the motor out and see if it runs fine in free form. If it does then I think something might be catching when going up and slowing things down. phong =P~

out of alignment by the sounds of it, either that or the motors are worn too much.

dave .. Shouldn't be an issue. I converted my EF to EL glass all round (with elec windows) and it was fine. Sounds like either an alignment issue, or possibly that all 4 window regs are stuffed - but that's a pretty big call! Are all the regs out of the same car? Do you know if they were working before? You confident that your wiring has been done properly, and you've got sufficient power getting through? |

It's not the motor that get's stuffed really.
There is a little bracket where both cables meet and are held together by a little plastic clip. It is this bracket that you bolt the windows to. When this little plastic clip has had a bit of use, they wear out (metal vs plastic dah!). When they wear out, the cables loosen up and the window gets out of alignment. You can try to realign the two bolts to the window but I've found it doesn't do anything as the plastic clip is worn anyway so it's not always aligned properly. When I last checked, you can't buy those plastic clips. I ended up going to a wrecker and found a near new whole cable/motor setup.

Wind all windows up fully, then remove your door trims. There are two bolts which hold the glass in the window mechanism bracket channel. Loosen these off using a socket and extension. If the windows are up hard, this will align the glass better in the channels. Tighten up the two bolts again and see how it goes.
Try some dry lube in the channels while the door trims are off too. I did this alignment procedure in mine and the windows have worked very nicely ever since. Have your motors got a really good earth? A nice, fat earth cable upgrade can work wonders for any electrical device in a car. Hope that helps. Mike

Remove window surround rubber and see if one window will go up and {down glass only}. My guess is that you have the ef seals on the el thicker glass that will cause much more friction and make it hard to go up not to mention you could of half burned all the motors out in the process. Good luck
