Gday , my father in law and his dad both have an EF and EL wagon. They have both reported a fuel smell in the car on hot days. Has anyone had this problem and does anyone know what might cause this.

Have smelt it before when lower rear seat was removed. I would say just a little vapour from lines that manages to enter cabin. Check rubber seals underneath vehicle. Also fuel tank is in wagon part where spare tyre is so its possible when heated to get a slight smell if open. Check hoses for deterioration. If smell is slight just open windows.

I'm not sure if it's the same on the EF-EL but on the EB2 the fuel filter sits just under the sill at the LHR passenger door. Last year I had fuel smells in the cabin and it was the filter's rubber hose joiners leaking. Replaced them [and the filter] no more problems.

Had same problem with mine, replaced petrol filler cap, problem solved, just uesd aftermarket newy, from what i was told same cap for e series & commodores of same era.

There are actually a few things that can cause fuel smell. For me, it was the carbon canister solenoid. I found it put in by factory the wrong way around. It sits under the front left wheel arch. On the solenoid, you'll find it has an arrow and says "carb". Make sure that arrow points towards the carbon canister.

yeh mine solinoid was the same was installed backwards the smells better but still there maybe canister is getting old
