hi, im currently mid way through rebuilding my 5.0 i have purchased a rollmaster timing chain set for the motor pn cs3040 which is described as "windsor 302 HO EFI factory hydraulic roller serp belt"

ive come to fit the part and included in the kit is some info about various retainer plates found in the windsor.
http://www.romac.com.au/pdf/Windsor%20T ... Plates.pdf

my motor has the retainer plate in the middle picture, not the bottom as you'd expect reading that page.
however the page supplied in the kit differs slightly from the link above, in the bottom box it says "can be used with middle plate on EFI engines."

can i use the 3040 kit with the middle style retainer plate?

can anyone shed some light on this??

which rollmaster kits have you guys used?

any help much appreciated asthis is holding up my build..
-mitch

I cant remember which I used as the kit that I bought initially didnt have enough clearance between the cam gear and the block.
It was either the 3010 or the 3040.
Sorry I cant be more of a help.

I have the middle style retainer plate, and I am using the CS3040 timing set.

It had done about 30,000kms, and about 60 laps of WSID without any dramas.

Looked fine when I stripped the motor down (dropped a valve), and I am using the same parts again in the rebuild.

thanks for the replies, i purchased a 3010 kit yesterday and measured it against the stocker, all seems to be the same so i opted for the 3010 over the 3040 which measuered up differently.

but that beings said xr8ute if yours has been working then maybe either would have worked?

should be back together and on the dyno by next week.. wish me luck :)

This "plate" issue with Rollmaster is an absolute joke.

Surely it can't be hard to make their sprocket spacing the same as Fords for either the non efi and the efi and leave it at that, without the need to have all these different plate scenarios.

I have also had fitment issues, ie the 3040 is for an efi but also having the "middle" cam retainer plate meant I should use the 3010 etc etc. The 3010 WILL not fit as it binds the chain on the block and I had to make additional spacers for both sprockets to gain clearance

Whether the 3040 would have been better despite the "middle" plate I don't know but it seems from what xr8ute says it is, so why do they complicate things about the retainer plates design.

I'm now building up a new engine and decided there was noway I was going through this crap again as there's big money involved in engine parts. Also everytime I've stripped the engine in the past I've always found the chain had stretched and by more than what I would have thought.

As I will also be using an expensive custom ground cam I decided to get the best and got a Ford Motorsport SVO/Rouse Racing HY VO timing chain as used in Nascars. It fits perfect and this baby will not stretch and stuff my cam timing. Expensive sucker but no more f*ucking about with Rollmaster for me ever again.

Hey, i just pulled engine apart tonight - the you beaut rollmaster is stuffed & that's only after 24 mths 50000km. In fact the crane powermax 2031 #444225 has bad pitting on one of the lobes - I think its a throw out.
Might need to look a a better quality cam to run with the 1.7 RR's. The springs I am using ( comp springs 978 ) are punishing the valve train big time - but hey no valve float.
I will follow your lead for the timing set.
Any ideas for cam?

Richie.

I've no idea what your engine consists of so a cam choice would be meaningless.

However, I would strongly suggest when you do make a decision you also get the correct matching springs. Using too heavier springs besides screwing with your valvetrain components will also rob hp etc.

The HY VO timing chain set is an expensive sucker but I'm fed up with the Rollmaster fitting BS, so IMHO it's well worth it as it fits perfect with no freakin spacers or shims etc etc and I seriously doubt it will stretch anywhere near what the Rollmaster does, if at all.
