I noticed that while doing my timing cover my motor never had an oil slinger fitted when i pulled it apart.I never had any problems with my motor previously but im thinking id better get one before i reassemble it.I have just fitted jp adjustable timing gears and have a new balancer and timing cover to go on. Any thoughts on this matter? Im assuming that the slinger sprays/flicks/slings oil onto the timing gears. Its just weird that the timing cover has never been off but the slinger is missing, maybe it didnt get fitted in the usa when the motor was built.

Had a bit of a look around and found out their purpose is to deflect oil from the timing chain away from the front seal to reduce the chance of leaking so im sure i need it and will get one 2mozz

I think that they are moulded on the back of the timing cover.

they go on the crank in front of the timing gear and are held in place by the balancer once the timing cover is on.Ive rebuilt 250xflows and pulled down a coupla clevos and they both have them, but since i have never built a 302 injected im not 100% sure so ill suss it 2mozz

Spoke to a dude at ford today and they dont have them, they have a double lip front seal to compensate for it.Meaning that they dont have one full stop and they definitely dont have one in the timing cover. The older windsors that have oil slingers have the single lip front seal mounted on the inside of the t/cover and the later models have no oil slinger and have the double lip seal mounted from the outside of the cover

Not much dave, broke the engine mounts at the drags after fitting extractors, then the timing cover died and the balancers half dead,so ive got all new gear and ive already fitted the jp timing set,put the rest back together 2mozz and see how it goes.We move into our house on the 5th of december(another shed to play in)

Hows that gonna replace the oil slinger when the slinger is normally under that,so how would that stop oil from flicking onto the seal from the bottom crank gear?????????????????????????
