is their any pros of getting a 6 cylinder rather than an 8 other than fuel economy??
my motor in my el has done a fair few K's and i want to get a new motor before i start doing any work to it...would u recommend getting an 8 and then do work on it or is a 6 still viable? |

The EA I have feels light cuz it's making decent torque for the weight of the car.
I want a V8 one day still, but for now the 6 cyl combo is quicker than a lot of V8's. Unless the 8 has a couple of tweaks, they can feel fkn heavy. |

i'd recommend staying with a 6... and if you want the V8.. buy one with the engine already in it....
thats the route i am going to take.... |

inowereulive,
Just from having a close look at the thirteen Fordmods members cars at Koala Park [NSW] All Ford Day today and talking to the owners I have to agree with the above posts, stick with a six. If you want a V8, buy a V8 car and go from there, you will save a lot of money which can be spent on mods. The sixes that our mob had on show today lost nothing in comparison to all the other clubs'cars in presentation or performance, our V8's were top notch too. There's a lot that can be done to the sixes and many would argue they'll out perform standard 5ls by a long shot. Talk to Bunter about how much more economical it is to get a V8 to start with rather than convert all your electrics, including gearbox manageament, over to run the V8. Many have done it, personally I think it's the hard way of doing things. Good luck, whatever you choose. Paul

don't give up on the idea of owning an 8 though. once you have you'll never look back.
the sound alone makes it worthwhile!!

anyone relise that listing this question in the 6 cylinder threads is going to get alot of biased opinions.. lol.. mayby should also be posted up in the v8 forums so THEY also have a chance to also point out "pro's of the v8.. or posted in the "off topic's??
BTW.. sixes are nice n easy to work on and easy to mod... |

i don't know about easy to work on but compared to an 8 they are...but in saying that i'd love to get a 8 one day,,properly tuned they are just as if not better on fuel as a six.

ive got both, hence the name. having the 8 is nice its a real cruiser but it is also a guzler when you get into it compared to the au not to mention the au xr6 ive got is a much quicker car

obviously your v8 is not a real v8 then
easier to work on is debateable as well. ripping heads off is a lot easier as you don't have to worry about cam timing or anything. also you'll never be pulling the heads off due to gasket failure!

just remember as no one has pointed out if you were to go a v8 you have to change front suspension, k frame , steering hoses, possibly rack i cant remember, gear box, ecu, wiring, possibly more i have been slowy looking at this , if you where to do it by a written off car and swap it over to yours that way everything you need is there
