I had gone to change the fuel filter on my ed sedan 4.0lt
and after removing the old one with spanners I replaced it with a valvoline one with the same part number. I put it it in the same way as the old one (IN-facing the back of the car)tightend it up and started the car then saw alll my fuel unload on the ground,my mate reckons there should be a washer or something but there was nothing else in the box nor was there anything on the old filter..Any help is greatly appreciated. |

Mine came with gasket washer type things, but they didnt fit so i tightened up the threads without them and there hasnt been any leaks?
Maybe youve cross threaded? |

Bah, there should be a standard with filters.
I use Ryco, They're tapered and made of aluminum and being soft will 'self' seal.

Geez, I hope I haven't cross threaded them, out of curiosity how do those washers go on?

the washers should sit inside the outlet/inlet valve (is that the right word?). If you are going to get another filter, I suggest what Krytox said, use RYCO and it should self seal. If you get another valvoline one, make sure you get a little rubber type gasket/washer thing that sits inside the inlet/outlet of the filter.
Make sure it's tight. phong =P~

Thanks, I hope I have ony cross threaded the filter and not the fuel lines if that is the case.Thanks guys.I had tightened them up tight though.

never ever come across a washer,gasket ever on those filter ea-el and ba onwards all have the same (ryco z373) just make sure the fittings are tight and you should use pipe spanners , less chance of rounding the fittings ect

I cant thanks you guys enough for the help..I am going to repco tomorrow to get some pipe spanners and ryco filter..I live in a small house(shared) so I can only use the driveway at certain times cos no garage/carport..I hope I can get the car started again and move as it sitting on grass again...fingers crossed...cheers!
I should note that when I was undoing the pipes I had to put a shifter on the old filter and a spanner on the pipe because it was so tight the pipe was moving the filter also.(if you know what I mean because the filter isn't mounted to the body as such.. |

yep thats the way to do it. Filter will have a hex shape on it to hold it while you undo the fitting

Take the filter off and look in the hole, their will be a bit of junk in there that is stopping it from going in all the way, i had one the other day that had a tiny blob of solder in the hole where the end of the pipe sits. It was a genuine filter.

Well I bought a ryco filter (another $25) and whilst I used pipe spanners and such it still leaks, not as much as the valvoline one but still leaking so I guess I have cross threaded the fittings,but I would of though had I cross threaded that it would of been hard to tighten up again,can I use thread tape or something suitable for fuel?

It could be cross threaded, and I believe there is nothing you can with thread tape wise to fix the problem, the petrol will act as a solvent and eventually eat through the tape. Try tightening it up a tiny bit more...every millimeter counts. phong =P~

heave on those fitting alot of the time "tight" is not tight enuff got make them super tight
