Gday , my electronic distributor in the 351 has shat itself . I want to get a new one but in the meen time I have a points dissy that I can put in. My question is : When I put in the points dissy can i still use the same coil that I used with the elec dissy or do I have to change that aswell?

The spigot on the end of the dizzy shafts are a different size, can't remember which way, but one is 12.5mm, and the other is 13mm. Check this first. Have tried another ignition module ( for the electronic one)???

Unfortunately no the coils are not interchangable. You must use the correct one for the ignition system, or you will burn out the points and possibly stuff the coil as well.
I agree with CJH, check the ignition module. You can buy them at Bursons or auto stores.

The other dissy will fit fine, the only difference being one is elec and one is points. The elec dissy is a piece of s**t ProComp brand , Ive had nothing but troubles with it and I want it gone. Thanks for the info grub73.

Why not get a Ford Electronic distributor? Points are a backward step.

Agree with Pete, the XD/E electronic is excellent.
I got mine rebuilt and curved and used an XC electronic shaft to suit the blue block. |

Yeah I am getting another elec dissy but I want a good one. Im not gonna get a cheapy like the Pro-Comp one I already have. So until I get some cash together for a really good one I was gonna run my old points dissy that I have here for a couple of weeks until I buy the new one. Thats all

I run an MSD, and swear by it. Hook it up to a digital 6 module, with 2 step limiter, and retard function, works a treat, and sounds crisp. Never a miss to 7300 every time.
Differences in shafts as cjh said is between blue and black blocks. One is imperial 1/2 inch, other is 12mm Last edited by ELGT on Sun Oct 28, 2007 1:25 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

You may want to check the ignition voltage, as in 12V on crank, and 9 or 10V with key in ON position, so as to see if it has a ballast resistor ignition system.
