Ok, I dont know where this thread should be, coz I dont know whats wrong with the car!!!
It started making a slight grinding sound when just steering, & when I checked the pwr steering fluid levels, it was empty, so I filled it up to the line, but it didnt solve the problem, the grinding got worse, and now it will grind all the way down the road, even when not steering!! The grinding noise gets higher in pitch the faster I go, and when I drive over a bump it makes the noise aswell! Help me someone!!! |

i would try new seals first because i have a vp holden that had a grinding noise when turning and the oil leeked out the bottle so try new seals first in the pump then if the noise is still there then its probably the pump even if the seals fixed the leek

So if I have a leak in the pwr steering pump, (which I probably have, because it was dry when I checked it
 ) then topping it up should fix it?
Ive run it for about 10mins to maybe let it run thru the pipes, and its still bad...

did you run it with the lid off to get he air out?
it might be possible that when it was dry it may of caused some damage somewhere

AU falcons had a issue is the pulley for the fan belt that caused a grinding noise or like my friends made it sound like it had a turbo running (was cool) check the (i think it was) top pulley is intact as they are plastic and tend to bust. I believe the replacements are different from Ford now. but i would also bleed the brakes if you ran it dry.

probably wouldnt hurt to run it with the lid off and turn the steering wheel left to right full lock several times but jack the front of the car first

My stupid jack handle has too much of an angle to turn it whilst the jack is under the car! agh, ok so 3hrs later, do I put the jack under that big silver bit under the front of the car?

crack in the steering rack is my guess.
is the fluid dripping at all???

Hey thanx everyone for replying, I decided to get someone to look at it for me, coz I dont know what Im doing. It turns out the 'ball joint' has collapsed and was scraping against my rotor!!! Nasty.
