Hello,

This is a weird one. Last week one night I was at the lights and this old lady was like, your brake lights aren't working correctly. I didn't really pay much attention to it until last night i got pulled over by the police.

He asked why they weren't working and I explained that I had no idea. Lucky no yellow placed and he said to make sure I get it fixed.

Here is what happens;

When the headlights are turned on and you brake, the brake lights on the tail lights go out completely and only the rear parcel shelf works
When the headlights are off and you brake, everything works the way it is supposed its meant to.

Has anyone had this problem or no why it would be happening?

Thanking you in advance.

In the boot. Not a relay.

replace all globes with the CORRECT ones and lube/clean the globe contacts, follow the wiring in the boot from the tail lights and find the earthing point, (Driver side 400mm in) remove it clean the area and refit!

Could be the brake switch as well, they are only $8 to replace from Repco.

Is this the mounting on the side?

Thanks so far for all your help

Dosn't that mean the switch is working as the parcel shelf light comes on or the tail lights go off?
I suspect a bad earth with the problem being in the tail lights/switch.

Bad earth somewhere in the car or a dodgy brake light switch would be my guess.....

I have heard of people having similar problems to what you are experiencing and it turned out to be a dodgy brake light switch, would be worth replacing for the sake of 8 bucks and going from there.
