Always found it odd that my EA's temperature gauge would rise noticeable in traffic (especially with air on) or after a thrashing, I did all the usual, radiator flush plus new thermostat and still it was the same, seeing as the "normal" scale is so huge I just assumed this was normal!

Then recently I was wondering though pick'n'payless (the payless part is getting debatable) and noticed a few E-series cars with a lot of crap wedged between the radiator and the air-con condensor, mostly leaves but also a fine layer of dust. When I checked mine it was the same! A decent clean later and it runs so different it's not funny, on a hot day with the air on the temp gauge hardly moves and same if I floor it up a hill then stop at a set of lights.

So if you have an E-series Falcon I recommend peeling away the rubber shroud between your radiator and condensor and having a look-see... you might be surprised.

just keep in mind if you want to do this, you need to take the hoses off the radiator and move it back in to the engine bay so you can get your hand down in front of it

Or get a stick figure to help you. ;)

I cleaned it out a few weeks after buying my car and did notice a difference, always stays right on the bottom of the gauge, just above the blue. Temp only rises if I'm accelerating up a long, steep hill. I've only ever managed to get my EA to the 'R/M' in NORMAL, and that was going up Clyde Mt. on a 30 degree day.

I just use my air compressor to blow the crap out rather than having to pull out the radiator ,works wonders

my air con was rooted so i took the condensor out so the radiator gets LOTS of air flow. i put some mesh in the front to stop s**t hitting the radiator.

that solved all my overheating problems.

and who needs air con, ive never used it in 4 years lol
