Hi Peps was flicking through the posts and alike and read various stuff on tail shafts and such,,, but i wondering how different are tailshafts from the EA to AU
Like EA 3 Speed Auto Tail Shaft is a one off but are the BTR tailshaft and T5 tailshaft the same from like EBI to AU or such it seems to me that the front of the shaft splines would be the same and the rear changes from EA EBI to EBII (main diff bolts) from the u bolts to the flange setup.. I own a EBI with the steel tail shaft i ask this queastion if i score or buy a alloy tailshaft from say a xr6 or so forth from like around the 94 95 range is there any way of making it into a U bolt type rear? Also i assume that the XR8 varient would be smaller to the I6 tailshaft? The only reason i ask these queastion as i am currently thinking about joining the Bathurst City light Car Club and getting a basic Cams license and having a lash at the hill climbs and down hill events..

Just need to change the pinion flange on the diff if going from EA/EB1 to EBII onward.. Don't know the answer to V8 to I6 but think they are the same.

hi
v8 and 6 cyl tail shafts are the same.. i originally fitted a el xr8 shaft to my ea 5 speed but i had a issue with the alloy tail shaft hitting the rear of the floor probably a combo of being low and the alloy shaft having a larger diameter.and the diff flange is different so to use the alloy shaft you must change the diff flange.. i found other than the alloy shaft being lighter there was no real advantage.. the car porformed the same felt the same to drive.. i know there is many views and posably a few arguments around about which is better.. but from my point of view i would stay with the steel shaft its a waiste of time and money putting the alloy shaft unless you want to polish it to make it look pretty.. i cant see any advantage from it... but yes it will fit!! |
