I'm changing the steering rack in my EF. I can't get the steering mechanism (the rod that runs from the steering wheel to turn the rack) off the rack. I've removed the bolts from the clamps both top (up by the firewall) and bottom (were connects to rack) and I can't get it to budge.

It should slide back easily, as it is on a spline. Perhaps it need a little persuasion. A lever to gently push it back.
