Hi Guys,
Is it legal to remove either the passenger , or back seat of a sedan and continue to drive it? I want to know because I think I could come up with a better place to sleep while camping when it rains if there's no seats in there. I'm guessing you would need a new compliance plate for any seating modification though... Thanks, Art.

I dont know if it's legal or not, but I did this to my Datto Sunny when I was heading to the snow fields in NSW about 15yrs ago,
My old man & myself welded up a removable bed frame out of 1" square tube which we anchored into the origanal seat bolt holes. It did feel funny driving with a bed besides me instead of a seat lol |

I used to drive a Subaru Fiori (glorified rollerskate, still got no idea how I fit inside it) for a pizza shop that had the front seat removed and a piece of laminex on a steel frame, bolted into its place, that ran from the dash to the tailgate. Never got any grief over it during roadside roadworthy checks.
For camping I usually just drop the backseat of the EB, roll out the swag and sleep with my feet in the boot.

i canot see it been a problem if u remove the seatbelt etc
the problem would arise if you were caught with ppl in the car with them sitting on the bed etc with no legal restraints then u get fooked on

Its legal but like Frank said if there is passengers on the bed then you need to restrain them with safety devices.

Hmm, that is quite ok, I wouldn't expect it to be safe travelling
with people occupying the spaces with missing seats. It's just a temporary idea for one or two trips.

Ive always wondered the same thing about removing the interior.... or pieces of it.
Eventually when i upgrade to a BA/BF i want to keep my EF only for weekends & track days and spend a bit on the motor/driveline and remove nearly everything bar the drivers seat lol, and still be able to legally drive it..... |

Hi,
Maybe you could give some idea how to get the back seat out without wrecking it? Maybe I should get a spare one.

seat base, just push towards the back of the car and lift while pushing, unbolt the bottom of the seat back after folding it forward, bolsters just lift out
