I was just wondering should people with gas cars have the ignition system upgraded? eg coil, leads....
If you have upgraded yours, what did you get?

When i got my car put on gas i had problems with it. It ran fine on petrol, but gas was another story. It would backfire randomly, lack power, and use heaps of fuel which was close to 22L/per 100km. So i changed the spark plugs, ignition leads, and coil packs and now it run perfect. No backfire, plenty of power, and lower fuel consumption which is more around 12L/ per 100km. I told a mechanic about the dramatic change and he said it was because gas is much harder to ignite then gas, so if you have a dodgy ingiton that you might not of noticed when on petrol, then it will probably give you trouble on gas. He is right though, one of my leads was broken and my spark plugs were looking tired so it was a good tjhing i changed it all.

you meant petrol there right, not gas again?

Gas seems to stress the ignition system more than petrol. My conversion included ICE HEI leads for gas, new plugs (NGK I think) and new dizzy cap. These all seem to work great. The leads are more expensive than some others but for the fitter to use them means they must work well.

I have owned a few gas cars before but my V8 wagon is the best I've had on gas. The thing runs pretty much perfect, it even idles better on gas than it does on petrol. All that will change soon as I'm running a cam. To complement the cam, I've upped the compression and bought some cooler plugs that will suit the LPG better than the really really old plugs that were in the engine before hand. I've got to say that my ignition system is far from perfect but I've never had any backfires or splutters. Perhaps it has something to do with using cast iron heads?
