Got a problem with the clutch pedal and was wondering if anyone has come across this before and if something is f**k?

When the car is switched off, the clutch pedal is smooth when pushed down.

But when the car is running, whether in neutral or in gear, i can feel the clutch pedal grinding and very rough as i push it down to the floor.

Could it be related to my other thread?

Ok, there is also a constant squeeking noise at idle, and had a look, the clutch fork is jumping up and down.... when i firmly hold it the noise disappears.

Is the clutch fork supposed to bounce around outside the gearbox? I assume the fork movement is why the clutch pedal is so rough.

What could be the cause?

Thrust bearing is shagged.
They're around $30 new, box has to come out to replace, the grinding is the bearing race wearing on the clutch fingers. the squeeling is the metal on metal with no lube!

Andrew's on the money re the T/O bearing.
You're correct, do the whole clutch/p/ plate, spigot, machine flywheel, while you're at it. Also rear main bearing seal too. Also check rear welch plug.
The fork shouldn't loosely flop around, there should be some slight tension from the cable.
Pull the cable and take it off with the damper, along with the plastic cover, get a torch and have a look - get a screwdriver and try to make sure the bearing is not seized, twist the T/O lever to make sure it is still anchored at the inside end (will still have a bit of slop).
I wouldn't be driving it too far with a seized T/O bearing, can do a lot of damage.

Ok thanks for the info.

So i go to repco and ask for a "thrust" bearing for an EA box, or is it the same part for the EBII onwards boxes as well.

Im planning on fitting a EBII 6 bolt flywheel and EBII clutch kit to my EA box..... is it a straight swap? And the thrust bearing is the same for both gearboxes?

Also there is no plastic cover on the box, i can see straight into it... i assume i need one.......

This fukin car im sick of it.... i just spent $500 replacing a timing belt guide
