Gday, my brother has an el xr8 series II and it has the GT extractors on it.
The pipes run straight mast where the spark plugs are and it makes it impossible to get some of them out with a standard ratchet and socket
Was wondering how others changed theirs, is there a special tool that has to be used or is there an easier way?
Thanks

Firstly make sure your using a 3/8" drive socket, not a big 1/2" set.

Then you'll need the use of a universal joint, they generally come with any socket set, if not, they will be readily available from any auto/tool store.

are the heads standard. if they are then there shouldn't really be an issue. the gt extractors would be designed to suit gt40p heads i would assume.

you may have to change them when the car is cold and unbolt the headers.

due to the fact that i'm running gt40p's on mine with headers not really designed for them, one of mine i had to do up with pliers (very carefully of course). luckily plugs don't need a lot of tension on them. otherwise i have to drop the headers.

like i said. with std heads i can't see there being an issue.

I have the same prob,i'm running gt40p heads on my eb with after market headers and its a pain too change the plugs,i have one plug the same as prydey that i can't get too and i've broken a couple of them,i use a plug socket with an open ended spanner to remove 7 of them but the hard one i drilled a hole thru and old plug socket and i manage to tighten it using a screwdriver.

1 - 4 (drivers side) are fine on mine. the one that gives me grief is no. 7 i think. 2nd or 3rd in on the passenger side. might have to try what you've done next time i need to change plugs. its the reason i run iridium plugs. the less i have to change them the better.

I use a cut down spark plug socket with a nut welded on the end for one of mine, then I just get a ratchet spanner onto the nut.
Genie extractors on GT40s.
Sounds like you guys have a different issue to me, but that may help.
