Some ppl here know of my project... Turbo V8 302 in my NC Fairlane. I have a T-70 running 10psi into a pretty much stock engine (cometic gaskets, rebuilt, acl race bearings etc...), and i have bought a Pro-m maf calibrated to suit 42lb injectors and the injectors to suit. Still running the stock fuel reg but with a walbro 255 intank pump. My question is...are these injectors too big? And if so, is there any harm in running injectors too big?

It really depends on how the tune is...
I was told by the bloke doing my blower on my 5.0L that 24lbs were good for up to 380rwhp, though bigger was better. Ideally he suggested 30-36 lb's as good enough with enough breathing space. You should be fine though, the tune will dictate how they will work and You'll have a fair bit of head room before they max out. Can't really go too big as long as you have enough delivery from the fuel pump. The walbro is a good unit. Just out of curiosity, What sort of boost are you planning to run?

What sort of tuning are you using? Chip or aftermarket ECU?
And the Pro M would be an 80- 85mm?? Should be a pretty good combo.

neither at the moment...using a pro m maf calibrated for 42lb inj and have fiddled with the timing a bit...i havent driven it yet, im getting it dyno'd next week to check out ratios and see just how effective the combo i have is...then thinking of going a haltech

42's would be fine.. If maf is calibrated right....
Its the idle where there maybe issues.. But plenty of U.S guys run more than 42's on there eec's.. A9L especially, with TwEECer....

idle problems...i already have idle problems...? if i rev it, and step off the throttle, it nearly stalls before settling back to idle?

Try lowering fuel presure with an adjustable fuel reg?? Adjust tps lower??? You may have turned idle screw up due to changed ignition timing...
This would take TPS voltage above 1v .. Check..

I build a turbocharged mk1 capri several years ago, running fuel injection with larger injectors. i don't recall the size of the injectors, but they were quite bigger than they needed to be. and even with the wolf3d v4 the bloke that tuned it (errol from efi dynamics) couldn't quite smooth it out, as it was idleing and running a little rough till about 2200rpm.
i mentioned to him that the injectors were quite big, and he said 'that would play a part in it'. once you get ur aftermarket ecu, i'm sure they'd be able to tune it out. if in the mean time you want to rule out the injectors as an issue, call a tuner, not a mechanic, but a tuner and see what they say. IMO, it sounds like the ignition timing could be the issue. When you find out what's causing the prob, post it up! Good luck with it! |
