Just a bit of a query as to why my EF auto does'nt change to 4th until just on 70klms on very light throttle......It has done 260,000 but i just find it annoying in 60 zones as top gear is just smoother and torquier........Trans has had oil changed already so is this normal or should i replace the solenoid valve???

mine used to change when ever the gearbox thought it was necessary to, now it wont change unless it gets to 70km/h regardless of how minimal throttle i apply.
i no what you mean though, driving at 65km/h it stays in third. belive it or not its actually better for fuel econamy. ive realisd that it takes a fair bit for the car to gear down from forth. so theres nothin to worry about

Might see if i can get onto a GC 2nd hand one??? It's not the fuel economy but the smoother/quieter ride i prefer... Will also try the power mode but that doe'snt make sense as that holds gears for longer not shorter!!! |

They advise you to use economy for towing and city driving.
It stops you from going up and down gears all the time. Also when towing at city speeds depending on weight - being in overdrive at 60 with a heavy trailer wont be good for the transmission

And no 5th in manual at 60 is a bit much but 4th in an auto could be done......I'm talking crusing here not stop/start.....That why i luuuv the new man shift auto stuff now....You still have 'some' control! Anyone think i should try the solelnoid valve....I'm really wanting this lower spped change now....and just can't help myself!!! Well i'll be! Drove mostly in power today and yes it does change earlier (@60k's) which is great.......Then when i got out onto the open sections i used Economy which does lock the verter up quicker in top......So the shift points in Power are wide for the first three then short for 4th....Interesting...and effective......I'm thinking that in the case of towing you obviuosly need the first three to get ur speed up without too much load on the donk.....then at 60....whammo.....ur cruising!!!! Also with it having done a few k's the power is down so it helps to get it movin anyways.....I'm happy now, and that i don't need to fix or change anything Thanks for the comments guys!!! |
