Hey guys. First of all, love the forums, the tutorial sections especially, amazing.

Now, my question is, is there a way to run two amps off the one RCA pre output from my head unit? I'm in this predicament because its my first time fiddling with the audio, and so im not wanting to pour huge amounts of money into my system just yet, so just purchased a cheap pioneer head unit, which regrettably only had one RCA out. I've just purchased a 2 channel amp, and saw that to run a sub from that I would need to bridge the channels. (I'm planning to amplify just one set of speakers, and simply run the others of the head unit, because I dont think they could handle the power of the amp, if i'm making sense?) and so I would have a channel free, but obviously not bridged. I just saw on ebay an amp which mentioned something about an aux in for running multiple amps off one rca, and it got me wondering if it was possible. I've also thought of an RCA splitter, but wonder about the potential of quality loss etc, sounds like bit of a macgyver way of going about things.

i used to use rca splitters before i spent a bit more money.....they always worked for me.....and im pretty sure the setup ur on about was the one i had.

I ran the fronts and sub from the amp, and the rear speakers through headunit.

rca splitters will be fine. some amps also have a straight through set of rca output plugs.



what do you mean by this? with a 2ch amp to run the fronts you use one 1ch per speaker, 1ch for left, 1ch for right. so if you had a 4ch for the fronts I would suggest bridging ch1+2 and then ch3+4 to run the splits like what I've done.
you wont be able to fade the sub out when you use the splitter, but thats okay because it just means that the gains settings will determine the volume (like normal), however you really should just leave it once its set.

running the rears off the h/u is a good plan, as its not worth the hassle to amp then, as you want the sound coming from in front of you.

heh yea, upon reflection you're right about the channels, i'm sorry about that. Posted that at about 1:30am after a long week, not a good idea.

So, one more question (and thank you both for your advice, its helped a lot, and greatly appreciated), And i believe this has come up in other threads, so i apologise, just trying to get my noggin round it all, is there much difficulty in putting a pair of 6.5"s in the door of an EL falcon?

I might just throw this out there too, just to give you an idea of what i'm working with. I've just bought a soundstream PCA2.360 amp. (2 channel, 720W, 110 RMS) and a set of 6.5" soundstream 3 way speakers, RMS 150W, And the other speakers that came with the head unit (139 bucks from autobarn for a H/U and 6" speakers, I was pretty stoked) Pioneer 6" 2 way speakers, for the back. Ultimately, I would like to throw a 10" sub in the back, hence the queries here. Thanks again everyone!
