After months of sanding, shaping and more sanding i've now got my project XR bumpers primed and painted in 2K base colour... have let them 'evaporate' for a week or so as i have no oven.....Next thing is should i 'knock back' (1200) the base before clearing it all as i once got a painter to do a bonnet for me and thats what he did....But that was EB J4 Metallic Black wer as the XR is non metallic Regency Red........This guy said it helps bring 2k out better.....Just want to do this properly!!!

Hmmm .....well this bloke made me drive the car for a week to let it "evaporate" first....Then while i watched he 'knocked' But what if it gets damaged in that time.....And surely the clears gotta go on early so it adhere's to the base properly....Too many options....will try and speak to paint supplier tmrw!!!

hi there, im a panelbeater/painter by trade. ive never heard of letting the paint evaporate(the thinners/reducer he must be talking about). usually the base coats are put on in 2-4 coats depending on colour then left to sit for about 20 mins then the clear coats go on and is left overnight to dry. next day its usually sanded (2pk is 80% dry) with 1500 then 2000 w&d to take the tops of the peel and get rid of any dust, then it gets polished same day. 2pk topcoat reaches full hardness in 7 days. unless of course an oven is used. hope this helps, craig
