Hi All,

Having a problem with my bros XB reverse lights. Got under the car yesterday but couldnt get the damned reverse light switch out from the gearbox. Does anyone have any tips? Does anyone know how to test the switch? Or get it out!

I tested the wiring as well. I jumped the wire heading to the rear of the car and the lights came on fine so I know its not that wire problem. Question however, should the wire leading to the switch be powered when the ignition is on?

Thanks in advance!
Luke

Yep, you should have power at the reverse switch plug with the ignition on. If you have a multimeter you can check the switch for continuity with reverse selected.

Thanks XC MUZ. There was no power at the switch with ignition on and in reverse. We managed to get the sensor out, it works fine. Also re-wired it all with relays and had the lights coming on fine with the switch out of the box.

Put it back in..and alas nothing. Whatever is supposed to be pushing the switch on the inside of the box isnt pushing.

Ended up developing an electronic switch up at the shifter itself, which has proved reliable so far! Thanks for your help!

I have had some probs if you fit/interchange XB/XC shifter with stuff from XD/XE. Have you changed anything recently?

Check the nylon bush on the shifter mechanism as this can prevent the shaft engaging the reverse switch while actually engaging reverse. Just a thought.

Thanks I will have a look. We have only just purchased the car and are running in to these problems. It has an aftermarket shifter on it. Obviously still have a loooong way to go with the car...just trying to get it roadworthy at the moment so we can actually drive it to some places to get all fixed up.

What sort of gearbox is it? I am assuming it is a single rail 4 speed manual.
