 I have replaced leads, new platinum plugs, k&m air filter, regular oil changes using synthetic oil. Problem still exists when car is cold in mornings it doesn't want to start. No black smoke from exhaust when it does start. Once it has started there's no problems. Any one with an idea??

no black smoke on start up? sounds like starving for fuel check fuel pressure regulater or fuel pump pressure but first how long since you changed your fuel filter

Its only just under 12 mths old,do you know if they have a cold start injector on them and if this was paritally bloked. could this cause a similar problem? I will replace the filter as its probably due anyway and maybe look at getting injectors cleaned. What do you think.
thanks for the reply it kind of confirms my suspicion of it being starved for fuel.

Colin,
As Speedway suggests, check all the usual fuel system suspects for flow. But as you have no problems once it's started, I'd also put one or two bottles of Spitfire [or similar] fuel additive in the tank to help clean the injectors etc. as a belly full of bad fuel could have gummed up the works a bit. We've had a similar problem with the EB2 from dodgey fuel and now are very particular with where we deal, but it's still no guarantee of consistancy.
I don't think you have a cold start injector in EFI systems unlike the Merc and VW Bosch mechanical injection systems.
Paul

You,r right paulmac there is no cold start injector as such it is all controlled by the ecu and sensors the old benz systems were much easier to diagnose as far as cold start problems go.

if your filter is 12 months old thats where i would start =if you use E10 fuel i would nearly bet on it (nothing wrong with E10 I use it all the time )=I change mine every 4 months (preventitive maintenence ) only around $10 -$15

I have had starting issues with low fuel pump pressure twice before. Try a filter first though as it's much cheaper. the other likely problems are injectors blocked up as they run generally ok but starting is difficult
