heya, just noticed the other day that there's what looks like a space for an 8 inch speaker in the middle of my parcel shelf. there's just carpet over the top of it. what's the story with that?!

yea, it's for the premium stereo sub, problem is that the parcelshelf rattles, as well as the 3rd brakelight, centre seatbelt, etc

the other part of the problem is that finding a half decent freeair 8" sub is next to impossible these days.....

if ya want a sub, get a 10" or 12" and put it in a box

yeah what he said. there are no decent 8 inch subs around so get a box with at least a 10 inch and put her in the boot

I have an EF and yes an 8inch sub fits quite snugly in there. I have put in a Jaycar 8" Sub with a 100W amp to push it along. To irradicate vibration i bought some rubber from a rubber shop and cut it to fit neatly around where the sub joins the parcel shelf. This seemed to fixed my vibration problem. Believe it or not, it donest actually sound too bad either for a free air 'lil 8inch. Makes the mirrors shake......

There is such thing as a decent free air 8" sub, only thing is they are hard to find and when you do find one it wont be cheap!
I have heared some JL ones and boston i think they were, both great and both not too cheap!
I wont be upgrading to one tho, id much rather a 10/12" in a sealed box IMHO.

yes the story about the hole in trhe parcwel shelf is it's designed for the premuim option. as for vibration it can always be fixed. i have an 8" premuim that im tryin to get rid of came out of my father's au series 2 fairlane only reason he took itout was cos of the gas tank...premuims go alright :)

In my books, the entire falcon range came with it because it was the same body shell and Ford could not be bothere mass producing a different mark frame with such a minor tweak (hole for free air sub) so they decided to mass produce it with the hole for the entire range.
Hope this clears up the question; Why?
