Hi, since having the timing chain replaced, althought the balancer and cam gear marks look lined up.... ive found the balancer has slipped and when taken to TDC on the pulley, the cam gear mark is 5MM above the head instead of the maximum 3mm.
So im guessing the an adjustable Vernier gear is the only way to go to bring it down a couple mm. Just like to know specifics about installing these gears and is it possible to make a 2mm adjustment and basically how hard is it to fit these? |

No need for a vernier its just the outer section of the balancer has moved, just take the plug out of number one and with a stick find TDC and then remark the balancer.

he has already checked for true TDC and found the cam timing to be wrong. by the way you dont remark a slipped balancer. you throw it in the bin. ever seen what happens when the outer comes off? |

yeah sorry i wasnt specific, i found the mark was out by finding the "true" TDC and remarked it. And to 'tickford-6', what happens? I assume half the people driving around have a balancer that's slipped, they just dont know it |

I assume half the people driving around have a balancer that's slipped, they just dont know it I've seen two balancers come apart. both happend with an 'amount' of engine speed. it makes a big mess busted fans and radiators dented bonnets smashed accesories. |

Yeah, seen an EF with a balancer release - about $1100 repair costs.
Helped out today on an AU I that had the balancer outer start to warp - kept throwing belts, lucky though not to get bad damage from the belt - the warped balancer smashed the crank sensor, so the car stopped dead. Should've got pics of the $1100 EF - would wake up a lot of people to the potential risks.

Wheres the best place to go for balancer, or is it recommended to buy genuine?
