Being in brisbane, i've completely forgotten what it was like to drive in the wet or anything resembling a soaked road. Anyway
i've had slotted rotors with CT brake pads put on recently and in the wet, they seem to be real spongey (feels like overheated stock rotors going down mount tamborine), the brake pedal goes really hard and sometimes a whirring noise and its not pulling up too quick. In the dry theyre great. Is this expected in the wet for pads not to pull up or do i have a master cyl problem. or do I need new brake fluid (not changed in 3yrs of ownership?)? thanks |

well change the fluid for 1 asap!
as for braking in the wet there would be water on the rotors and pads and even with slotted rotors it can take a few seconds for teh water to be removed and the pads to work effectively i would suggest brakign a bit early than normal then lettign off the pedal and re apply see how that goes

yeah when i did that this is when the pedal got spongey and the pressure I had to put down on the pedal was like they were overheated.
I seemed to get better braking by applying soft pressure for a second or two and then leaving foot down, then braking hard. the vacuum is fine, there are no leaks, but it just doesnt feel right. will get fluid flush soon. may just have to get used to driving in the wet again. Likewise a semitrailer on the M1 last night, turned 180 degrees, ditched in the centre divider, on a 3km piece of straight road. |

Your brake fluid should be changed at least every 9 months...

mine felt crap an spongy aswell, untill i found out that my tires were to blame

will also depend on the rims you have. open centre wheels (EL GT's) will dissapate heat very quickly when wet.
i had the el snow flakes (saphire pack) and they had towed a horse float in the heat. the rotors mushroomed over the capapers and heated up something cronic after. fitted the gt rims and braking was still bad. now with the slotted's, its a lot better, but when it gets wet i had 35% brake potential i would say. the intial stopping is s**t and no matter how hard i push, it doesnt make a difference. btw, hoses might need a change
