when a headlamp decides for itself when it wants to be on or not,

is the bulb on the way out and needs replacing,

is it faulty wiring

is it water getting in somewhere ?

...have you tried checking the bulb? if the bulb is in tact that I blame the wiring, if the wiring is good you can check for moisture, if there is no moisture try relay, if relay is good then try the switch at the dashboard, if that is okay...it's possessed.

If its relay or switch it would effect both lamps. If its just the one you may have a faulty filament or connection.

I agree with Joolz, check the connector at the light first, they get encrusted and don't make good contact.
To test...try swapping over the bulb to the other side and see if it still happens.
If Phongus is correct in his final option, try burning incense and talking nicely to the car, giving it a name and make it feel part of the family is good too.
Cheers,
Paul
