Hey jjohnno

There was no EA XR6. Most LSD diffs from EAs were out of Fairmonts and possibly Spacs.

Differences are:

Different Pinion connection requires tailshaft from EA

The mounts for the trailing arms are also different I believe and are a different size.

The ratio is probably undersireable, they are often 2.77 and use a 25? spline axle and centre.

I think that is it.

In otherwords, it is not a bolt in swap at all.

lsd was standard on the ghia, but was only a factory option with the gl, s-pac and fairmont ea.

Also EA's were two pinion where the EF/L's were 4 pinion.

I have an 88 NA Fairlane diff, its 2.77 LSD. All the early EA, NA, DA's had only 2 ratios to pick from, 3sp Auto had 2.77, and 5sp manuals had 2.92.
The second series EA's ( 4sp auto ) had usually 3.08's fitted ( sedans).

I changed mine too. I used an EBII housing, 3.27 gears ( the EB's) and put my LSD centre ( 25 spline 2 pinion ) and axles in.
Works good with the 5sp. Car was original 4/88 S pack sedan in Stark white with brown interior ( yuck), with MPFI 3.9, 5sp, and 2.92 LSD, as ordered from the dealer in Gladstone, Qld. I'm the 3rd owner and it had 128k on it when I got it in 2000.
I also have a 5/91 EA S pack 30th anniversary sedan in Platinum silver, 3.9 MPFI 4sp auto. haven't looked at the diff to see what it is yet.

I made some alloy spacers for the lower trailing arms on the 88 to fit the EB housing. Reason for the EBII housing is, I don't have to dismantle the Watts link and pull the back cover off the change the diff oil.
Also, I'm using the EBII flange and tailshaft.

In my ol Val, I could do 100kmh in 1st, with a 2.92 diff. I had the E49 single rail box. With the 3.23's, it came back to 80 kmh. It was fun to have it in 1st at 60kmh, then floor it to disappear in an accel test with mates.
